Monday
Lucy was sick twice yesterday so we cancelled all plans (physio appointment and a play date) for today to avoid spreading anything. I did lots of housework, mainly laundry. Had five baskets of washing to fold and put away. How does it pile up so quickly? I literally think one day that I am on top of everything and then I blink and am completely overwhelmed by all the tasks. When I go back to work I really want to invest in paying someone to clean. I can’t remember the last time I dusted and you can tell.
SJ was super tired and moody after Kindergarten so I spent lots of time with her. Edd and I had a small argument over dinner which is rare these days. I can’t even fully remember what we argued about. I think everyone is just super tired.
We had book club in the evening which was lovely. I always feel so excited about reading afterwards. Such a wonderful hobby.

Tuesday
We had an absolute awful night as both girls are super snotty and woke up lots. SJ felt rather ill in the morning so decided to keep her home. I was a bit moody due to tiredness and another day of cancelled plans. However, my dad then kindly took L for a long walk and SJ visited Edd in his office so I could have some alone time. Read in the Bible and prayed which made me feel a million times better. I printed off a habit tracker in the hopes of getting more consistent with taking my supplements, doing my physio exercises and making time to open my Bible. I shall let you know how I get on!
When the girls returned my mood was much improved. L had a long sleep and SJ and I did some crafts together. We also practiced piano, played games and made mash potato. Quite a sweet day in the end but it took forever to get the girls to sleep due to coughing and blocked noses.

Wednesday
SJ went back to Kindergarten today as she had seemed mostly fine during the day yesterday. L and I had breakfast, she played while I did my quiet time and then we went grocery shopping. My hope was that she would fall asleep on our way home but it wasn’t the case. I also failed all subsequent attempts at getting her to sleep.
Edd took her and SJ to the playground for a bit so I could have a break. Sewed on my quilt for a while which was really fun.
Later I took the girls to my parent’s house. My nephew was there too. The girls adore their cousin and had a great time playing with him. However, SJ was super tired and when we got home I realised she had a fever…! Getting her to eat dinner and get ready for bed was a challenge but she fell asleep quickly.
Edd and I watched the first two episodes of Silo on Apple TV and I am really enjoying it! I love a good dystopian plot and this one seems excellent so far.
Thursday
Seeing that SJ had a fever last night I kept her home again. She was absolutely fine all day though… Ha! It was a super nice day though.
We had breakfast, did Bible time and some chores and then SJ asked me to paint her face – for the rest of the day she was a tiger (“a friendly one!”)
She watched Peppa Pig while I put Lucy for a nap. Then I cooked lunch and we ate spaghetti together. The weather was grey and cold and rainy so we stayed inside, doing play dough, puzzles and other games. It was rather relaxing.
Edd went out in the evening. I knitted, wrote a blog post and listened to podcasts.

Friday
My mum came over this morning to tackle some of the aforementioned dust and general chaos! We tidied and cleaned the girls’ room and our bedroom and I feel so much better now. The living room and kitchen gets attention most days whereas our bedroom typically is the place everything gets dumped. We have a small flat and sometimes you need spaces to tuck your clutter but I feel so much more excited about going to bed now! Plus, my sewing corner in there looks a lot more inviting now.
Edd’s sister and her partner arrived today for a visit. It’s always so nice to have them. They are amazing with the girls and it’s such a joy to see SJ so excited and I love how she chats away in English suddenly.
Saturday
Edd got up with the girls this morning so I could lie in and catch up on some sleep. L was a bit tired and unhappy due so I decided to take her for a walk in the graveyard in Riehen. It was sunny and wonderful. I sat on a bench for a few minutes, reading my Bible and praying and it was such a sweet moment.
Back at home we had a big breakfast all together. We hung out at home and around half two I cycled to Fünfschilling with L in the trailer (it was time for another nap) while the others drove there in the car. Listened to more of “Eve” and then started “Intermezzo” by Sally Rooney on the way. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a table so ended up getting takeaway pizza instead. After dinner SJ got super silly and we invented a game called “Popo Duschen Hide and Seek” and laughed a lot. It took a while to calm the girls down so they would sleep but eventually they did and we had a nice evening chatting and watching funny videos and going to bed way too late!

Sunday
Had a super chill morning getting up with the girls – SJ watched Peppa Pig, L played I had some Bible time. My sister and brother in law came over and entertained the girls while Edd got fresh rolls and I made breakfast. Around midday Edd took S+T to the airport for their flight home. I did some laundry with SJ and we made giant bubbles outside. In the afternoon we saw my parents for coffee. Back home we had leftovers for dinner and put the girls to bed. Then Edd to leave for the UK tonight. I spent the evening putting new elastic into a pair of pyjama bottoms and then read. I finally finished “Little Women”.

It has been a good but also kind of exhausting week. Things that really worked for me was using my habit tracker – it just helps me to be more intentional with my time. We shall see how long until I will forget to fill it out or fall off the bandwagon, but right now I am feeling pretty motivated.
Also, I am so grateful for all the help I had this week with the kids and housework.
I really enjoyed talking about books on Monday, having family over this weekend and spending time outdoors.
