Tuesday, 24th of December
We‘re in England! We arrived yesterday morning. The flight was on time, there were no queues in either airport and the girls were super relaxed. SJ was amusing everyone by singing songs about planes and wishing everyone merry Christmas.
Once we had arrived, we hung out with the friends we‘re staying with for a while and then went to do some shopping, have some lunch and meet some other friends for coffee. It was all pretty chill.
I am finding travelling much more stressful than I used to. Whenever I have to pack for a trip there is a part of me that wishes to just stay at home! However, now we’re here it feels good to have a change of scenery and a break from my daily routines.
Right now I am still laying in bed while Edd is downstairs playing with the girls. I am excited for the week!
25 December – Wednesday
It’s Christmas day! This morning we all got to unwrap one gift, plus a joined one for the girls. SJ got a dress, Lulu some socks and we bought them a wooden Peppa Pig trailer that they both really enjoyed playing with so far! Edd got me a Stars Hollow jumper which I am so in love with. I got him socks with Whiskey glasses on. (I bought him more than just socks but left the other things in Germany).
After a relaxed morning we drove to some really good friends and had Christmas dinner with them, chilled, went on a walk and unwrapped more gifts. It was such a nice time and we felt completely spoiled by our friends’ hospitality and generosity.
26 December – Thursday
Today we had our Christmas meal with Edd’s family. We ate some delicious food and unwrapped lots of presents. It was a nice day but by the end the girls were a bit overwhelmed by all the attention and excitement. After a lot of tears they both instantly fell asleep in the car!
We put them to bed and then enjoyed a relaxed evening watching Forest Gump and eating cheese. I made some good progress on the little tulip jumper. Initially the neck was a bit too tight for SJs head so I started over yesterday. It’s a really enjoyable knit so far, I really like knitting raglan tops.
27 December – Friday
Today we went to a Tilgate park with some friends that Edd knew since he was a teenager but the girls and I had never met. Their children are the same age as ours so we went to a little zoo together which was lovely, albeit rather cold!
In the afternoon we saw some of our best friends, Tom and Gemma and their kids. It was such a good time filled with good conversations, play and great food.
28 December – Saturday
Today we drove two hours west to visit Edd’s aunt and uncle together with Edd’s sisters. We had the most amazing Christmas roast! After dinner we played some really fun games and were laughing lots. It was a fantastic day.
However, the girls were absolutely exhausted – on the drive home they both cried for ages before falling asleep. It’s been such a busy week for them. I’m glad we’re headed home soon!
29 December – Sunday
This morning we all woke up feeling a bit under the weather, the girls were both coughing lots throughout the night and I have a headache and sore throat.
However, we still ended up having a really good day. In the morning we saw Edd’s oldest friend and his family. They have twin girls slightly older than SJ and a German shepherd so both our girls were well entertained!
In the afternoon my best friend Yasmin and her husband Frank drove up to see us which was so wonderful!
After they had left we desperately tried (and failed) to fit all our stuff plus all of the Christmas presents we received in our bags. It was a struggle but we’re ready for tomorrow now! We have a early morning flight so hopefully the night will be ok and everything runs smoothly. So far all my experiences of travelling with the girls have been quite good but I still always feel a bit anxious before.
We had such a nice time here but I am looking forward to being home now!
