Weekly Journal 5/1 – 11/1

Monday

I got up at 6 am this morning – while both girls were still asleep! I know that some mums swear by getting out of bed before their kids, I normally swear by sleeping as long as possible. However, our church has a week of prayer and fasting this week and a zoom prayer meeting every morning at 7. I got ready, had some coffee, journaled, read my Bible and then joined the call. It was such a good way to start the day.

Afterwards I got the girls dressed and then we cycled to Lidl to pick up a few groceries. Back home I set the girls up with slime, play-dough and kinetic sand and started prepping a meal for my friend who had her baby last week.

SJ went to my mum‘s while L and I dropped the meal off and had some cuddles with the baby. Incredible how small they are at one week old! Such a miracle!

For lunch I went to my mum‘s who was looking after SJ and my nephews for the morning. We ate and played for a while before heading home.

It was a relaxed afternoon, I gave a deep clean to our dishwasher and then we made a “3 King’s Cake” which is a traditional thing to eat around here on the 6th of January.

In the evening my small group met for the final time in its current form. We had a precious time together as always.

What a wonderful Monday!

Tuesday

Joined the prayer meeting again this morning which was great. The girls and I had 3-King’s-Cake for breakfast and then did some tidying and cleaning around the flat. We had the coziest lunch/snack time with candles and reading stories. While L napped SJ and I played hair dressers, one of my favourite games. So relaxing having your hair combed for 10 minutes straight! Ha!

In the afternoon SJs best friend from nursery and her mum came by for a playdate. We hadn’t seen each other in a while and it was so nice to be able to catch up and watch the girls play together. They had so much fun!

I tried to sew a bit in the evening but my sewing machine didn’t cooperate, it kept coming up with an error code that didn’t make any sense. Frustrating! I did some blogging instead and then headed to bed.

Wednesday

Another morning, another prayer meeting! Such a good was to start the day. Got joined by L very early today. She was being extra cute and the convenient thing about zoom is the mute button!

Today it was Ls first day back at nursery. SJ had an extra day at home and we had a Mama-Daughter-Date and it was so special. We had 3-King’s-Cake for breakfast again and she found the king! Oh my days, she was SO excited. A very good start to the day. We then got dressed, did some laundry and then painted our nails. We played and hoovered and then cycled into the village together. I was riding my bike behind SJ, watching how she got off her bike at each crossing, checking the road for traffic and then walking across the road with fast steps. I don’t know why but watching her be so independent yet sensible made me feel so proud.

We went to a pizza place together and it might have been the most romantic meal I had in my whole life! Ha! SJ kept saying “Thank you for taking me here, Mama!” “Oh everything smells so delicious!” “I am having such a nice time, Mama!” “I love you so much, Mama!”. Needless to say, we had a wonderful time. We ate Pizza and SJ got to order some ice cream for desert.

Then, we did some errands and picked up L from nursery.

The afternoon was very calm, we listened to Pippi Longstocking stories and coloured.

In the evening I met on zoom with some mums from church. We meet every Wednesday to pray for each other’s kids and it’s so special.

Thursday

Both kids are back to nursery and kindergarten today! I felt a bit sad actually.

The morning was spent with various bits of admin and doing some work. And with watching the snow fall! So beautiful.

I did some grocery shopping and then picked up the girls. We had a playdate in the afternoon with some good friends we know through SJs kindergarten.

Sadly it was a bit too warm for the snow to stick around and the rain washed the pretty white cover away by the evening, but the girls still enjoyed even the little remnants they could find.

Friday

It was the final early morning zoom prayer meeting today. I so enjoyed them! The girls joined me most mornings and found it fascinating to see familiar faces on a screen.

I spend the morning doing some work, catching up with laundry, doing some yoga and knitting.

The temperatures had gone up a bit so it was quite pleasant to pick the girls up with my bike. We had a bit of chill time at home before heading out for their gym class.

On our way home we did some shopping and then made pancakes with smoked salmon (for the grown ups) and jam (for the kids) for dinner.

Edd and I started watching the current season of “The Traitors”. It is such a great show!

Saturday

I spent the morning at an event called “Mom Life” where I enjoyed some delicious breakfast and listened to an interview with two women and their experience of motherhood.

After that I did some shopping for carnival costumes for the girls and ran a few other errands.

Back home we played, I cooked dinner and did some crafts. In the evening my dad and I attended our village’s New Year’s Reception. The mayor spoke about budgets, current projects and future plans. The information was interspersed with musical performances by a really amazing Jazz trio. We met and chatted to lots of people and had a really great evening.

Sunday

This week we didn’t have a normal church service. Since a few months I help my friend run the kids ministry in our church. Her and I plus our families met at the church building anyway to clean out some cupboards and go through all of our materials. It was quite satisfying!

Back home L napped and SJ was allowed a bit of TV. I had lunch and did some writing.

Later, we headed over to see my dad, my nephews and sister in law for coffee, cake and playtime.

It was such a great week actually. I feel so grateful for this life.
