Weekly Journal // a new bike and a family trip to England

9 min read

It’s been an eventful week, so I decided to capture some memories here!

Monday

I had a really lovely start to the week. In the morning I had a zoom call with a good friend of mine who asked me to be interviewed on her podcast! I am quite excited. (You should check it out – a podcast about motherhood and mental health, super interesting!)

I then did a Bible study, practiced guitar and got my yoga mat out for some much needed stretching.

In the afternoon the girls and I made waffles and then went to our neighbours house. We came home with a few new kids clothes and some cuddly toys, much to the girls delight! Haha.

In the evening it was book club. I love talking about books and I always come away feeling inspired to read more!

Tuesday

Today my one big goal was to pack our bags for our UK trip. I really hate packing. It feels so stressful to me having to decide what the girls and I will need and to think about eventualities and then cram all our stuff into one big suitcase. For some reason it takes me absolute ages and I always end up forgetting something. This time it was the gift for our nephew and my kindle. I also didn’t take enough things to keep L entertained for the duration of the flight. (Note to future self: pack more engaging books for her next time!)

However, I also got to do something very exciting – my new eBike was ready to be picked up! I can’t quite describe how happy I am to be able to do all my errands and nursery runs by bike again. Also, when we ordered the bike at the shop we had a bit of a running joke about Kinder eggs and they gave me a huge one with the bike which was a lovely cherry on top! I love our village life.

After the nursery run (by bike!) we went to a friend of SJs from her kindergarten. L and I left after a while and picked up SJ later in the evening. She is a bit shy going places without me and I am so proud that she is overcoming her fears and doing playdates on her own more and more now.

The rest of the day was spent finalising our bags, laying out clothes for the next day and going to bed early.

Wednesday

We got up at 4 am (!) and then headed to the airport. The girls were really excited. Unfortunately being on a plane was too exciting to snooze and L in particular was very hyper! Sitting still is not really her thing, I was glad that it’s only a 90 minute flight.

From the airport in London we got a train to Sussex. Edd had to work, the girls and I spent our time playing at the house and going to a small playground. It was very cold!

We saw a friend later and had an early night, we were all pretty exhausted after the early start.

Thursday

On Thursday morning the people we stayed with hosted a mum and baby group and we were able to join in. It was a lovely time meeting some of my friends from book club and talking about faith and parenting.

In the afternoon we went to a local café with a play area together with Edd’s mum.

In the evening we went to a very good friend of ours to have dinner with him and his kids. They are a bit older than SJ and Lulu but they played really nicely together anyway. They also have a cat so our girls were very happy!

We got some friends to babysit in the evening and went to a local pub with some other old friends which was such a treat!

Friday

We started the day with special indulgence reserved for our UK trips; breakfast at McDonalds! Afterwards we drove to see Edd’s sister, her partner and their baby son! It was so wonderful to finally meet our nephew. SJ and Lulu were so smitten with their little cousin.

We first hang out at their house and then headed to a beautiful park and café for some lunch and ice cream. It was such a good day.

Edd then dropped us home before driving off to Epsom to kick off their youth weekend. The girls helped make a fire and read books while I made them some dinner.

Saturday

Today we drove up to Epsom and spent the entire day here. I led worship, Edd did a talk and then we just hung out, ate and in the evening had a talent show. It was a long but really great day!

Sunday

We drove back up to Epsom this morning for their church service which concluded their youth staycation weekend. I led worship again and really enjoyed it. It’s been a while since I last did this and felt a bit nervous before but it was nice to see that there’s quite a lot of “muscle memory”.

After church I packed our bags, Lulu napped and SJ had some TV time. We then headed to our friend’s house where we ordered curry for dinner. I try to get curry whenever we’re in the UK, it’s one of the things I really miss about living there.

We then went to bed really early as we had another very early flight the next day.

It was a lovely little trip. Always so nice to catch up with friends and family and enjoy British culture.
