After six weeks of posting and writing very little it was so life-giving to me to put together last week’s blog post! So here we are again with another round-up of my week!
In case anyone gets the wrong idea – my weeks don’t just consist of highlights. For example, right now I am not getting anywhere near enough sleep. I am fairly resilient but my moods this week have been quiet up and down. I have definitely have failed at being a kind and patient mother and wife more than once. Plus, I am still bike-less (mine got stolen on Halloween) and it’s very annoying to not be able to cycle. We had to cancel some of our plans this week due to an unforseen trip to the pediatrician. Life is full of things that we’d rather avoid.
And it’s so easy to focus on those negative experiences and feelings.
My goal with these posts is to notice the good that is here right now. To stop the “if only I had this” thoughts for a moment. And to be grateful for all the blessings I have.
So, let’s get into it! Here are some of my highlights from last week!
- You might or might not know that I am not a big fan of administrative tasks. This week I managed to get the majority of our paper work for our tax return together which felt like a great accomplishment.
- I spontaneously took the girls to the indoor pool on Monday afternoon. We were there with some friends from SJs kindergarten and it was a really fun time playing in the water together.
- Tuesday was St. Martin’s which is celebrated in Kindergarten’s in Germany by doing lantern walks and it’s a tradition I absolutely adore! Edd was able to come as well and being together as a family felt extra special.
- My dad and I went to the bike shop this week to pick out a new eBike! They currently setting the bike up for our needs and very soon I will be able to cycle again – I cannot wait!
- The weather was mostly really nice this week, we spent a lot of time playing outside – both in my parents garden as well as at the park.
- On Wednesday the girls and I went to a new (to me) playground with some friends and we had an impromptu BBQ. It was so much fun! Nothing makes you feel like it’s the weekend in the middle of the week like making a fire and grilling some sausages. 10 out of 10.
- SJ had a friend over for a playdate on Friday. They had a lovely time together but her excitement to host her friend the entire week before was almost as good as the afternoon itself.
- On the weekend, my dad, my brother and I took our kids to a playground in the woods. It was the day I was most tired, so being outside and getting some fresh air was amazing.
- Saturday night Edd and I had an at home date night. We made a candle! Edd had ordered a kit with wax and wicks and it was really fun to do something creative together. Plus, we had some delicious whiskey cocktails which made it feel even more festive.
- Getting out of the house on Sunday morning was extremely chaotic and stressful. However, being at church after and focusing on God’s grace and being reminded of the fact that I can come to him in my weak moments was so good for my soul.
- Knitting in the car while Lucy napped and listening to the rain and a podcast was a lovely way to have a break in the middle of the day.
- I feel so loved when someone makes a meal for me. On Sunday afternoon we saw some good friends of ours and they made the most amazingly delicious vegan lasagna. The combination of good company and delicious food is my absolute favourite.
