Weekly highlights: a rather emotional week

4 min read

After SJ and I both had a vicious tummy bug last week, this week was much better! Edd was also home, which made everything better.

The weather has been very summery and quite hot, almost too hot! It’s exhausting but I also quite like the lifestyle during these hot days. Sleeping with all the windows open, wearing dresses or shorts and no makeup, eating lots of salad and other foods that require no oven or stovetops to avoid heating up the house even more, playing with water… summer is in full swing!

This week was very special. On Thursday, SJ turned three years old. I am currently reading a book about parenting by a psychologist and I have learned that the first three years of life shape us most. So, in a sense, the foundation in her life is set. I think (hope) we mostly did okay. There are things that I regret and I keep learning how to handle things more graciously but SJ has and is becoming a wonderful person.

We got together with my parents, brother, sister in law and SJs cousins and godmother to celebrate her in the afternoon in my parents garden. SJ was a bit tired and maybe slightly overwhelmed but we had a lovely time. On Saturday we had a party with SJs friends and it was so lovely and relaxed! I had rented a small private playground in our village and it was the perfect location.

Even more emotional than SJs birthday was the fact that she had her very last day of nursery this Friday. She had the most wonderful time there and has become so close with some of her nursery teachers. I very nearly cried when I picked her up for the last time on Friday.

Other highlights from this week

  • Hanging out with some lovely friends on Monday afternoon, playing, feeding guinea pigs and cooling off in the sprinkler.
  • SJ and I both got new sandals. And they match!
  • On Tuesday night I was able to go to small group. It was nice to go somewhere in the evening and catch up with the people in the group and pray together.
  • I baked a birthday cake for SJ and she helped decorate it, which was a lot of fun!
  • We had quite a bit of relaxing time at home, especially on the weekend. SJ was playing with her new toys and we all tried to get some rest which was nice and necessary!
  • I actually managed to find a bit of time do some crafting and finished a mini punch needle wall art! It was super satisfying to make.
