Life Lately

Life Lately – December 2026

3 min read

Lately I’ve been…

Eating lots of good food – it’s Christmas after all! We had Raclette on the 24th, a traditional English roast dinner on Christmas day and today Edd is making cottage pie.

Drinking too much coffee (as usual). Plus teas from our Advent calendar and Edd and I are still really into Old Fashioned cocktails.

Wearing my new Christmas earrings. And I am very excited to put on my Stranger Things T-Shirt Edd gave me for Christmas.

Reading “The Spirit of the Disciplines” by Dallas Willard on my kindle. I am basically underlining every other sentence. It’s very good!

Listening to “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles. I can tell you – it lives up to the hype! Such a wonderful novel. The girls haven been obsessed with listening to “Maria durch ein Dornwald ging” and insisted on listening to it on repeat on all car journeys lately. Whilst writing I often play “Ocean” by John Butler through my headphones.

Knitting on a pair of self-striping Advent socks plus the Sailor Swift top by Kutovakika. I think I need to restart though, as it is turning out too big.

Sewing my long sleeve top. Still! I am really hoping to finish it before the year ends.

Excited to watch the new episodes of Stranger Things tomorrow! I am loving that show so much.

Enjoying blogging everyday. It’s only day two of this little challenge, so we will see how well I manage to keep up with it but I’m excited to try.

Proud of the meal I made yesterday – two roast chickens with roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, stuffing, carrots, swede and gravy. Everything turned out so delicious! It was really fun to make a big special meal for people and for them to really enjoy it.

Loving the presents Edd got me – the aforementioned Stranger Things T-Short, a book by Ian McEwan and a puzzle book called Murdle – I started solving some of the puzzles yesterday and it was extremely fun.

Hoping I can finally get back to exercising a bit more soon. Having had this persistent flu virus for about four weeks made me rather stationary and I am itching for a long bike ride, a swim or even to try a run.

Needing a new pair of glasses. Mine broke the day before Christmas. Luckily I had an old pair to wear for now but they’re also a bit broken and not quite the right prescription. It’s such an annoying thing to have to replace.

Grateful for my husband, my daughters, family and friends. It’s so easy to get stressed by money during the Christmas season and to forget how rich you are if you have people in your life you love and who love you back. What a gift!
