In 2023 I participated in the 100 Day Project and wrote and published a blog post every day for 100 days. It was quite an intense undertaking. However, it’s also been one of my favourite things that I have done so far.
There is another round of the 100 day project starting on February 23rd 2025 and I really want to take part. I am itching for a creative challenge and to shake things up a bit. My word for 2025 is “Expand” and I am ready to stretch myself and my creative muscles!
What makes a good project?
I have a number of ideas floating around in my head of what to do for the 100 day project. In trying to decide, I want to think through what makes a good project (for me).
Guidelines vs. Freedom
From past experience I know that it is good to be specific, yet broad. I need to know what to do but don’t want to be too restricted. For example: Write a blog post (a specific format) about whatever you like (broad!).
Time constraints
Another thing that worked really well when I did 100 days of blogging, was that it was possible to vary how much time I would spend each day. Sometimes I wrote longer posts that required a bit of research and more editing, other times I just shared a few paragraphs about my day.
Reduce decisions
Also, I created a loose content calendar, so that each day I only had to write. That was much easier than also having to come up with ideas and decide what to write about.
Challenging enough
Last year, I was newly postpartum with our second child, I wanted to make things easy for myself. So, I came up with 100 days of self-care. Each day I wanted to do something fun or restful – read, knit, see a friend, etc.
I think being intentional about cultivating joy is always a good idea, and especially when you have recently given birth.
However, it did not make for a good project. It was not overly specific and it didn’t feel like a challenge. (Which is probably a good thing!)
A good 100 day project (in my opinion) gets you to do things that are a bit of a stretch. The goal is to grow and learn and try something new.
Easy to share
Part of this project is the community aspect. For me, it was so motivating to know that people were reading my posts every single day. Being able to share your work is a key part of the project.
Ideas for my 100 Day Project
With all that in mind, here are a few things I am considering for this year’s 100 Day Project.
Blogging
This was just such a good project and I could definitely imagine doing the same again. I love to write and to process my thoughts on various topics and to document my life. It was also a great wat to connect with people.
Patchwork
In recent weeks I have been itching to sew more! I love making clothes but I have dabbled a bit in quilting and really enjoyed it! I love the creative freedom in patchwork and all the different things you can do with it. It’s a skill I would love to hone and learn more about! I already have so many ideas for things to make!
Use your stash
In the past I did a project about finishing works in progress, which went really well. I could imagine doing something similar and using up all the yarn and fabric in my stash that I have accumulated over the years.
Play the piano
I have some basic piano skills but couldn’t play you a full song right now. I really love making music and it has been a hobby that got neglected a lot in recent years. I have a piano course I could work through and lots of material to work with. I would be really intrigued and seeing where I would be 100 days from now, if I would practice every day.
The downside of this project is that it isn’t portable. We will be in the UK in February and in May, so I would either pause the project then or come up with something I could do without a piano.
What do you think?
Let me know which idea you like best, I am struggling to decide! Will you participate in the 100 Day Project? If yes, I’d love to hear about it!
