Friday // a week in my life

6 min read

In case you missed it, I am currently documenting a week in my life along with Ali Edwards and her community. Here are my posts for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Here’s Friday!

I was inspired by Ali’s approach from Tuesday to respond to the prompt “What I see when I look at this photo is…”. So, let’s dive in!

When I look at this photo I see myself feeling grateful for a slow morning. I don’t often have the luxury of staying in bed past 7 am, so having coffee in bed and typing out a blog post while Edd and L took SJ to Kita was such a treat.

When I look at this photo I see a little girl who adores her dad and looking at books.

When I look at this photo I see one of my many daily tasks. The never-ending cycle of dishes and laundry and the like is sometimes maddening. But it’s also a sign that there’s people here and stuff and that we’re so incredibly blessed.

When I look at this photo I see connection and a shared love for reading.

When I look at this photo I feel overwhelmed by love and gratitude for nap-time and a break in the middle of the day.

When I look at this photo I see myself prioritising rest which isn’t always easy to do but I am learning!

When I see this photo I see the never-ending cycle of washing and drying and folding. But I also see my favourite part of laundry – hanging clothes up outside.

When I look at this picture I feel so much gratitude. Cycling makes every day better and I am so happy summer is finally here! Our electric bike and trailer has added so much joy to my days and I love being able to get almost anywhere by bike.

When I look at these photos I see my girls that are already so much bigger and more independent than last summer. L is now able to get up the stairs to the slide on her own and SJ catches her at the bottom!

When I look at this photo I see the best neighbours – we got to feed their pets while they were on holiday and SJ and L are always welcome to use their trampoline and swings. These little fun moments make such a difference on an ordinary day.

When I look at this photo I see that being outside is the best.

When I look at this photo I see my girls eat their favourite food: spaghetti with plain tomato sauce and grated parmesan. I used to love cooking but toddlers and their obsession with beige foods are making me feel rather uninspired when it comes to experimenting in the kitchen.

When I look at these pictures I see so much. My silly husband who just got hired (literally on this day!) to be the director of research for a big charity. I see a much needed date night after a season of uncertainty and worry and things being quite difficult. I see my new dungarees which I love and I am reminded that clothes can help me feel like myself when I forget who I am. I see a marriage of almost ten years. I see trust and joy and tears and deep, deep friendship. I see God’s provision and kindness.
