Creative Projects – January 2026

9 min read

It’s been quite a while since I last shared what creative projects I have been working on. So, I thought it was time to share some things I have recently finished and my current works in progress!

I have been in a bit of a creative slump over the summer – probably weather related! But I felt a lot more motivated lately to start making things again. I discovered a new-to-me YouTube channel which is mostly focused on knitting called “Breathing Yarn“. I have been super inspired by her approach to making her own clothes and now I want to knit and sew all the things!

Finished objects: mostly baby knits

Lots of good friends had babies in the last six months so I spent a lot of my creative time knitting cute little items for babies. It has been truly fun and I love giving handmade gifts especially when people appreciate and use them. However, I have to say I am a bit over baby knits now.

Here’s a couple of things I made!

The Baby Bear Balaclava

This is such a cute and practical knit and I actually want to make two more for SJ and LH. Probably won’t be done for this winter though!

I unfortunately didn’t take a picture of my finished knit. The one below is a photo by the pattern designer Pernille Larsen.

The First Impression Pants

These are very cute but the never-ending ribbing takes forever to knit. I do love how they turned out though! The pattern is available for free from Drops Design.

A little hat for a little guy

The Watch Cap Hat by Purl Soho is one of my favourite hat patterns. I have made it for both adults and babies and so far it had turned out great each time. I am debating turning it into a bobble hat. We shall see!

The Finger-Paint Pullover

I was quite sceptical of my using the colours I had chosen but stuck with it and loved so much how it had turned out in the end. This is another free pattern. The construction is bottom-up and there is a lot of seaming. I prefer knitting a raglan-style bottom-down construction where you put stitches on hold for the sleeves. Picking up stitches or seaming are no fun in my opinion. So, I most likely wouldn’t knit this again even though it turned out extremely cute.

A beautiful pair of socks (adult size!)

I finished knitting a pair of Rustic Cable Socks, the pattern is by Inga Skeie aka Knitting Traditions, one of my favourite knitting influencers.

I made the first sock as part of a test knit and the ran out of yarn halfway through the second one for some weird reason. It sat in my WIPs drawer for ages until I finally found some yarn that was almost the same! If you look closely you can tell it’s not exactly the same but I don’t think anyone but me would notice.

A Sophie Scarf

This is a slightly sad story. I splurged on a ball of cashmere yarn and knitted a Sophie scarf over the course of three days or so. It was so fun and I LOVED the finished result.

I’m not necessarily a neck-tie kind of gal, I feel like a wannabe air hostess. However, I really liked it as a headscarf. I felt very cute and cool and cozy wearing it on my head but then I lost it somewhere after a week or so.

If anyone has found it anywhere, I’d be so happy to get it back! Otherwise I will have to use my Christmas money on a second one…

The Orbit Bag (a sewing project!)

My final finished object is the Orbit bag! I absolutely LOVE it. I enjoy quilting so much and this was such a great project. Due to its small size it is way less daunting than a full size quilt, so perfect for someone like me who is a fairly new to the world of quilting.

I use this bag almost daily, it has become my go to hand bag. The size is perfect and it looks so cool.

Works in Progress

My Advent socks

Last Christmas I bought a skein of self-striping sock yarn with 24 different stripes. The idea is that you knit one stripe each day of December and have a finished sock by Christmas day.

The delivery of the yarn took forever and by the time it arrived Advent was almost over. So, I just saved it for the following year!

It was super enjoyable to knit on these. I fell behind pretty quickly but didn’t overly mind. Last Saturday I finished the last strip of my first sock, so now only the cuff is missing. The second one is complete until the heel. S basically I am 70% done two week after Christmas – I am content with that!

The Sailor Swift Top

This is a pattern by Kutovakika aka Veronika Lindberg. I love her designs and have been wanting to knit a summer top for a while. My measurements were between two sizes so I went for the larger option. It seems to have been the wrong choice – the arm holes are to big and generally it’s not quite the fitted look intended. So, I probably need to rip back and possibly even start again.

Hyldebær headband

I made a pair of mittens in the same pattern and yarn a while ago and am now working on a matching headband. The wool is slightly scratchy, so I’m not sure how much I will wear it. The set will definitely look cute though, even if I’ll get an itchy forehead. Ha!

Leo top

As a birthday present my mum paid for a sewing workshop where I started making a top! I learned lots in that one day and I am extremely close to being finished. My plan had been to hem it yesterday but then my sewing machine decided not to cooperate.

I am obsessed with leopard print and am looking forward to having this in my wardrobe.

That’s it! I am excited for whatever creative projects 2026 will bring! Are you working on any fun things? I would love to hear about it!
