You probably know by now that I love setting and working towards goals. For me, goals are less about trying to change or improve or somehow overhaul my whole personality. They are intentions to make room for joy. To make time for the things that easily get neglected but are so important for my physical, mental and spiritual health.
Why review my goals?
As my goals aren’t really measures that I try and live up to one could say that a “review” as such isn’t really necessary. However, even though I am not a fan of the “new year, new me” attitude I do want to grow. I want to be the type of person who sees things through and keeps going even when things become difficult. That being said, I also allow myself the freedom to let things go.
Circumstances or energy sometimes turn out different than expected. Priorities change. That is life!
And yet, I find a lot of value in being intentional with my time. After all, how I spend my days, is how I spend my life.
Let’s review these goals
Alright, enough chit chat, let’s do this review!
Open my Bible with a pen in hand every single day
Well this definitely didn’t happen every day. There were weeks when I did this more and then weeks when I didn’t use my physical Bible at all. I have been listening a lot to my audio Bible but didn’t spend as much time as I wanted really sitting down to read and journal.
However, when I did it was so valuable! I re-purchased the “A Bible For A Year” course again. It is basically a Bible journaling class. Less focused on being super artistic with it but instead it encourages to engage with the text in a tangible way by taking notes, writing down prayers and questions.
I do my best thinking with a pen in hand so this method is perfect for me.
The reason I didn’t do this daily is that I have no fixed routine of reading the Bible. I try amd prioritise it during Lulus nap while SJ is at Kindergarten but often I end up doing a million other things instead.
Something to work on in 2025!
Monthly date night
We probably didn’t quite hit the monthly target but we went on a few dates and it was wonderful! SJ is getting better with having my mum babysit her and put her to bed which is great. Lulu is still a bit unpredictable but it’s getting easier to get away for a few hours as just the two of us.
Minimise screen time
We are still fairly strict when it comes to screen time, however, I have relaxed the rules a bit! My initial goal was zero TV but we now allow SJ to watch Peppa pig on weekend mornings. It’s a special treat for her and allows us to stay in bed a bit longer and have chilled mornings.
Don’t use breastfeeding as a sleep cue
Well… I probably have changed my mind on this one. As I am on my own with the girls every other week and I have to put them to bed by myself I chose the path of least resistance.
Lulu is so different to SJ and I haven’t felt it super problematic to feed her while she falls asleep.
Reach out to a friend every day
I didn’t track this so I can’t say for sure whether I reached out to a friend each and every day. Probably not! However, I have been more intentional to initiate things with people.
I am getting better at texting back in a timely manner but I just don’t enjoy having conversations that go beyond practical things via message.
Go to church regularly
We finally found and joined a church which I am so happy about!
Do a Bible study with a friend
My best friend and I did meet up for a while to discuss a book we were reading together. However, we didn’t actually finish it, which is a shame. The conversation we did have were really valuable though and I am glad we managed those few meetings.
Post at least one blog post per month
I didn’t post anything during the month of October. (It was quite an intense month, I hardly managed to feed myself and the kids…) However, so far I published 57 posts in 2024 which I am pretty happy with! I definitely wrote a lot less from summer onwards. I had zwro childcare in August and September and then it was the terrible October. After that, I was out of the habit. That’s life! I would love to be more consistent but I am accepting that that’s not always possible.
Creative goals
I didn’t finish my Hyldebær shawl but I made a few Baby things for Lulu and for friends. I very nearly finished my Copenhagen cardigan and spent a fair amount of time knitting on various projects.
Read 36 books
I exceeded this goal (Hurray!) and managed to finish 40 thus far.
Life is unpredictable
I knew going in to 2024 that I might not manage to hit these goals. We had a baby and now have to children to look after. And parenting is quite time-consuming! Haha.
I am happy with the things I achieved and am looking forward to setting more joyful intentions for 2025!
