November Favourites and December Goals (with free wallpaper)

5 min read

I cannot believe we’re already in December! 31 more days and 2016 will be over.

November was a really good month for me. Lately I just so privileged to be alive and to have such a lovely family and so many good friends. Of course there were some days and some things that didn’t work out great this month (as you can read here) but I have felt  really joyful and at peace. I think this partly has to do with a new habit I am trying to establish – being more grateful. Especially on bad days it is so helpful to lift my head and to look around to see all the little things in my life that I so easily take for granted and to utter a thank you to God. It just changes my perspective and my mindset is much more positive.

With this in mind here are my favourite things in the month of November!

Favourite food/recipe:

Nutrition bowls. This sounds not very appealing but it is basically a plate full of good foods. I usually put lettuce or spinach on there, beans, lentils, baked potatoes, quinoa or rice, sauerkraut and vegetables. Obviously all topped off with Sriracha (hot sauce). So delicious and you get lots of nutrients. (#health)

Favourite TV show:

OF COURSE the new Gilmore Girls episodes. Oh my days. I won’t include any spoilers but oh my, oh my. I cried. And I don’t usually cry when I watch TV or films. It was that intense and emotional and just so wonderful to see these beloved characters that I held dear for so many years and learn what has become of them. If you haven’t seen them watch it and then please message me because I need to talk about it. Desperately!

Favourite song:

This is not very original or new or amazing but for some reason I couldn’t get enough of the song “Monster” by Rhianna and Eminem. It has been on repeat for days on end (I think my husband and my neighbours were not impressed).

Favourite book:

After reading the The Sleep Revolution last month I picked up another book by Arianna Huffington: Thrive: The Third Metric to Redefining Success and Creating a Happier Life. Arianna challenges the popular belief that success is measured in terms of power and money – often at the cost of one’s own family, social life and health. She thinks that what is much more important is personal well-being, wisdom, wonder and giving. She makes a good case for those things not being in the way of functioning businesses but actually being essential for individuals and companies to thrive holistically. It is really easily read, well researched and thought provoking. I would definitely recommend reading it!

Favourite event/experience:

I have to mention a couple of things here. (Basically every weekend something fun happened!)

One: I ran a half marathon with my dad. It didn’t go as well as I had hoped but it was so great to be able to anticipate this event and to achieve this big goal together with my father. We always have done a lot of running and swimming together and I really miss being able to do that now that we live so far apart. Running a half marathon was like a long dream for both of us and so it was very special to do it together!

The second one was this blog. I have absolutely loved getting back into writing. I still feel a bit rusty and think that my texts are a bit clunky but I just keep telling myself that the only way to get better is to practice! I still have a lot to learn in terms of blogging and social media (and especially planning and organisation) but it has been so much fun! The best thing was the amount of positive feedback I have gotten so far and the warm welcome by the blogging community. Really every comment or twitter mention makes my heart leap – thank you so much to everyone who has been so kind and supportive!

Has anyone ever been to an Escape room? My best friend Yasmin had her birthday this month and to celebrate we went to an Escape room – it was so much fun. Your basically in a room as a group of friends and have to solve a number of puzzles that lead you to a key hidden and locked away that will open the door for you to escape. The difficulty is that you have only 60 minutes time to do so. We were just over 60 minutes so we didn’t manage to escape but it was so much fun nonetheless. I definitely want to do it again and cannot recommend it more for a fun afternoon out with some friends.

And last weekend Edd and I visited some really good friends (Edd’s best man and his wife) in Nottingham. We had such a lovely time just hanging out at the fireplace, eating great food, playing board games and watching films.

Favourite product:

I have been trying to get back to being a bit more organised and to get back into bullet journalling this month and so I have loved using my Leuchtturm 1917 notebook. I have it in the colour ’emerald’ and I love that it has dotted pages and it just makes planning and organising much more fun. Let me know if you would like me to do a post on bullet journaling and how I do it at some point!

Now onto my goals for December!

  1. Write Christmas cards. I love receiving letters and cards and equally I love the process of writing a card by hand and sending it in the post. #backtotheroots I think Christmas is a great opportunity to catch up with people and let them know that you haven’t forgotten about them despite being awful at replying to texts and emails (of which I am definitely guilty).
  2. Relax and be mindful. December can be such a hectic month and it is easy to forget what Christmas is all about. I really want to take time each day to get into the ‘real’ Christmas spirit, to ponder on the fact that Jesus has come into this world about 2000 years ago and that he will come back here to redeem this world. I want to take time to spend with friends, knit, drink tea and go for walks.

What are your goals for this month? What was your favourite thing about November?

As a little pre-Christmas present I have created a festive wallpaper for your desktop. You can download it by clicking here or on the image below.

I love your December goals! We always used to do Christmas cards but fell off the wagon a few years ago and haven’t got back into it.

I am doing an epic marathon of Gilmore Girls before I dive in to the reunion. Such a great show! And yeah, we did an escape room last room. We got stuck in the first room so we had to be rescued lol. Looks like your November was lots of fun. Here’s to a more wonderful December!

I really love that emerald notebook. Which reminds me I really need to buy a new one as mine is getting pretty full from all my notes!

Definitely an important attitude to have – especially this time of year. There’s so much to be grateful for. Can’t wait to write my Christmas cards either! Have a great December. My November favourites are here if you fancy taking a look http://www.rachellouisesays.com x

My December goal is to spread kindness. I think this is what the world really needs today. I can start small, by practicing it at home, and by volunteering in fund raising activities or sharing my time with the elderly in retirement homes, feeding a homeless person, or even donating to an animal shelter. One small act, when done by many will definitely make a change. May your December be blessed!

I love that! The world definitely needs more kindness and the little things make all the difference!

My December goal is to finalize 2017 tasks. It’s tedious but it’s so worth it.

Yeah goal setting is such a game changer!

My favourite thing about November is that it’s my birthday month. I’m really looking forward to being active this December and getting my January plans ready

don’t hate me, but I have never watched Gilmore Girls! I know everyone says I should watch it, but I just don’t have the time at the moment. Maybe after the holidays. Now there is a goal for 2017. Watch at least one episode of Gilmore Girls, so I can see what the fuss is all about. Blessings!
