January favourites and February goals

5 min read

Often when I write these posts I think, ‘wow, I cannot believe the month is already over’, but not this time. January felt really long for some reason. It was a beautiful 31 days – Edd and I had many people over for dinner, caught up with friends and planned fun adventures and dates but, as life always is, there was also some more difficult days and especially towards the end of the month I got seriously tired of winter. I caught a flu/cold type illness two weeks ago and still haven’t fully recovered. At least I am not spending all day in bed anymore.

Anyhow, let’s get into some of my favourite things in January and my goals for February!

Favourite food/recipe:

I made up a recipe for matcha oat balls. I wish I had a photo to show you but usually I eat them to quickly to snap a picture! (Yes, they are that good). However, my dear friend Eleanor and I are currently writing a little e-book “7 days to plant-based” which will most likely include a recipe. So keep your eyes peeled!

Favourite TV show:

As I have been ill for so long I had lots of time on my hands to watch TV and of course I watched lots and lots of Gilmore Girls and also the final season of The Good Wife (which came onto netflix just in time). Edd and I are currently watching Brooklyn 99 which we might love even more than How I met your mother.

Favourite book:

I haven’t quite finished it yet but I have been reading a book called Shantaram" by Gregory David Roberts. My best friend Yasmin lend it to me and oh my it is so good! It does not only have a really gripping storyline, it is also full of very deep philosophical thoughts and the language is just beautiful. And it is set in India (the land of my dreams). So basically it is all around perfect.

Favourite song:

This song just puts me in a good mood. And makes me dream of summer in this cold weather. Also, when I listen to it I wish I could skateboard. (Not sure if that is a common emotion when listening to music?)

Favourite event/experience:

I took a day trip to Southport to hang out with my friend Eleanor and her husband Andy (and her dog Peanut). We had such a lovely day going for walks, baking and eating vegan food. She is really fun and intelligent and you should definitely check out her blog. She is currently doing a series on transitioning to a plant-based diet and she has a lot of great information on nutrition and many delicious recipes. You can also download a free ebook she has written on her website which features a range of tasty lunch ideas. And as mentioned above we are currently collaborating on a new e-book which I am so excited about. Keep looking out for the hashtag #7DaysToPlantbased on instagram for more information and previews!

Below a picture of us in Southport – looking at it now I am not surprised I got ill – should have worn a scarf…!

 Favourite product:

So, I am currently trying to transition all my make-up and skincare to cruelty-free products and I am super impressed with the brand nyx. I have never bought any of there products before but I got a couple of their lipsticks recently and I absolutely love them. Just so easy to put on and the colour lasts for a really long time. My favourite ones are the liquid suede vintage and the lingerie liquid lipstick, in the colour teddy. Both are gorgeous.

Other than that I have loved my gym membership. During these colder months I struggle to motivate myself to go out for a run, so it has been really good to have the gym just around the corner. I have started doing early morning cardio classes which has been a great start to the day.

Now, on to my goals for February!

Read the Bible.

I use this app called ‘Youversion’ on my phone to read the Bible and they are running a little challenge to read the Bible everyday for 21 days. I started a plan created by the She reads truth community about prayer and I really enjoy it so far. I think sometimes we can forget what a privilege it is to have God’s word so accessible to us. The Bible is so full of wisdom and encouragement and I always benefit greatly when I take time to read a few passages each day. Even if you don’t believe in God, I can recommend reading the Bible, there is so many interesting stories and advice that is helpful in many circumstances.

Write.

I really love writing. And I want to do it more. I want to make time to write down my thoughts, whether it is just for myself or a blog post or an instagram caption. My goal is to at least take 10 minutes everyday to journal or blog.

What are your goals for this coming month? And what were your favourite books, songs and experiences in January? Leave a comment below, I always love to hear my reader’s thoughts!

Stay bright and bold!

Oh I love Shantaram book too! I love matcha and oats but never really made anything with them both in the same recipe, need to give it a try.
